Pima County Child Dies Of The Flu

PIMA COUNTY – On Wednesday, the Pima County Health Department confirmed the death of a child due to complications related to the flu virus. The elementary school-aged child passed away in late February.

According to health officials, an investigation was conducted and it was determined that the death was caused by infection with the H1N1 influenza strain

The CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010.

According to the Arizona Department of Health, in Arizona “more than 4,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications; and about 700 people die from flu.”
