COVID Cases At 3,702, Deaths At 122, Zip Code Case Count Updated

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 3,702 cases of COVID-19 and 122 deaths in Arizona as of April 13. The Department said 43,347 tests for COVID-19 have been completed in public and private labs in Arizona as of Monday, and results were negative in 39,645 tests.

On Sunday, the Arizona Health Services Department released case counts by ZIP code. On Monday, Dr. Cara Christ, Director of the Department echoed Rep. Kelly Townsend, who fought for more information to be made available to the public, advised against using ZIP code counts as the only barometer of infection in your area. According to Christ, ZIP code counts include anyone in that ZIP code who has tested positive, whether their infection occurred two months ago and has resolved, or two weeks ago and is still active. So while ZIP code data is informative, it should not be used to determine whether or not residents of a particular zip code are or are not at risk of COVID-19.

As calls to lift the stay-at-home order increase, Governor Doug Ducey tweeted out: “Arizona’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected” order is in effect through April 30 — and slowing the spread of #COVID19 remains our number one focus.”
