AZ State Senator, Family Members “Recovering And Resting” After Coronavirus Diagnosis

PHOENIX – Arizona State Senator Lupe Contreras confirmed on April 22, that he and five of his family members have contracted COVID-19. According to Contreras, when his wife and he “first experience the coughing, fever and headaches we were thankfully able to get tested on April 20, and received our test results the next morning.”

Contreras told of his family’s experience in a press release that reads in part:

Since then my wife and I have been quarantined in her bedroom. We’ve only been able to speak to our children through the door and every morning at 4 AM we go through the entire home wearing protective gear and sanitize every surface to ensure our children are safe.

I hope that by sharing my family’s experience with this terrible virus will further clarify just how serious this pandemic is. This it has impacted my entire family in deep and permanent ways and my heart aches for all of the other families experiencing the same thing. But I am incredibly grateful for my community who has rallied around my family at this time to help us get through this. I also want to say thank you to the medical community of Banner Health who acted swiftly to test and take care of myself and my family members. The doctors, nurses, and other emergency responders caring for people during this time deserve our lifelong gratitude and respect.

He concluded with a “thank you to everyone who has reached out to me and my family and let you know that we are resting and recovering.” He urged people to “take this pandemic seriously.”
