Bighorn Fire Grows To 11,500 Acres

The Bighorn Fire is now 11 percent contained. the fire has consumed 11,500 acres.

Residents near East Golder Ranch Drive and East Rollins Road have been told to evacuate.

Fire managers say the fire is expected to be active in the areas of Upper Ventana Canyon, Kimball Peak, and Romero Canyon, into the nighttime hours with increased smoke and visible flames.

Crews engaged the fire near Cargodera Canyon on Saturday, south of the East Golder Ranch area conducting additional firing operations to direct the fire away from the values and risk (such as homes) and keep it up in the high county. Heavy assistance from helicopters and air tankers supported crews on the ground, protecting the properties of East Golder Ranch, Catalina State Park, and the Trico powerline that provides electricity to Summerhaven.
