BP Agents Arrest Permanent Resident Smuggling Meth

YUMA – On Sunday, Border Patrol agents working at the immigration checkpoint on Interstate 8 arrested an 18-year-old Lawfully Admitted for Permanent Residence (LAPR) from Mexico, on drug smuggling charges.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent referred a Toyota Prius for inspection after questioning the driver. A Border Patrol canine alert prompted the agents to search the vehicle where they discovered 27 packages of methamphetamine in the backside quarter panels and frame rails.

The narcotics weighed almost 24 pounds with an estimated street value of nearly $48,000.
