Few Arizona politicos swiftly reacted to the news that the Supreme Court ruled today against the Trump administration’s effort to end DACA, the Obama-era program which offers protections to immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.
5 leftists on #SCOTUS decide that Obama can write an executive order but Trump can’t reverse it. This is contrary to centuries of precedent and case specific to @realDonaldTrump
Until today every EO by any @POTUS could be undone by another. This is corrupt. #BuildTheWall

Roberts made it clear that this decision is not a ruling on the merits for or against DACA, or the effort to get rid of it. Rather, the Court found the Trump Administration bungled the procedural work on DACA.
Roberts writes the 5-4 decision, “Here the agency failed to consider the conspicuous issues of whether to retain forbearance and what if anything to do about the hardship to DACA recipients.” The case is remanded back to DHS “so that it may consider the problem anew.”
In his dissent, Justice Thomas says the decision is “an effort to avoid a politically controversial but legally correct decision.”
Great news! The Trump Administration should immediately reopen DACA applications for all applicants. https://t.co/X3OgkiPSnx

Justice Roberts delivered the opinion of the Court, except as to Part IV. Justices Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kagan joined that opinion in full, and Sotomayor joined as to all but Part IV. Justice Sotomayor filed an opinion concurring in part, concurring in the judgment in part, and dissenting in part. Justice Thomas filed an opinion concurring in the judgment in part and dissenting in part, in which Justices Alito and Gorsuch joined. Justices Alito and Kavanaugh filed opinions concurring in the judgment in part and dissenting in part.
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court vacated President @realDonaldTrump’s administration’s rescission of the unlawful DACA program created under the Obama administration.
I’m extremely disappointed in this decision & in CJ Roberts for continuing to side against the rule of law. pic.twitter.com/vJrmrLjT0a

Thinking about Salvador, Abril, Karina, Reyna, Ellie, and the 26,000 other DACA recipients whose #HomeIsHere in Arizona. Today's SCOTUS decision cleared a hurdle so they can continue to live, learn, and work here—so all Dreamers can continue to make our country stronger.

Today’s DACA ruling gives the White House and Congress the opportunity to do what is right and solve this issue with thoughtful legislation. (1/2)
