TUCSON – On Tuesday evening, Tohono O’odham Police Department officers arrested Juan Jose Mazariegos-Perez, a previously deported child molester.

Tohono O’odham Nation officers called for the assistance of Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents in order to verify the identities of Mazariegos-Perez and a woman travelling with him.

Border Patrol agents learned the 20-year-old woman and the 35-year-old Mazariegos-Perez, both of Guatemala, were illegally present in the country.

A records checks revealed that Mazariegos-Perez, was previously convicted of child molestation in Georgia. Mazariegos was sentenced to two years of confinement, three years of probation and subsequent removal from the country for his conviction.

Mazariegos-Perez remains in custody, pending federal prosecution for reentry of a previously deported felon.

According to Border Patrol, the woman will be expelled to Mexico under Title 42 authority.
