TUCSON – On Monday night, U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued two illegal immigrants locked in a vehicle’s trunk during an immigration inspection stop near Lukeville, Arizona.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), agents with the Tucson Sector conducted a stop on a Dodge Challenger driving north on State Route 85. A trained canine alerted to the vehicle’s trunk. When agents opened the trunk, they discovered two men crammed inside.

Agents immediately provided the men with face masks and placed them in an air-conditioned patrol vehicle, according to CBP. The outside temperature at the time was near 100 degrees.

The U.S. citizen driver was arrested on federal human smuggling charges. The two men, both Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States, were expelled to Mexico under Title 42 authority.
