Tucson Man Arrested For Deadly Fight Involving Mistaken Graffiti Accusation

TUCSON – Tucson Police are investigating a fight between two men, John Francis Hodson and Robert M. Norwood, that turned deadly.

According to the Tucson Police Department, on November 3, 2020, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the report of a physical fight between Hodson and Norwood in the 2500 block of S. Calle Yucatan.

Upon arrival, officers found bystanders attempting to render aid Mr. Norwood who was unresponsive. Officers performed CPR on him until Tucson Fire arrived. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit responded to continue the investigation. Through interviews, detectives learned that Mr. Norwood was outside his residence painting his exterior wall. Mr. Norwood was approached by Mr. Hodson, who believed he was spray painting graffiti on the wall. A verbal confrontation ensued between the two. The confrontation turned physical in which Mr. Norwood and Mr. Hodson wrestled to the ground. Witnesses at the scene were able to separate the two men as officers arrived.

Mr. Hodson was charged with manslaughter and transported to the Pima County Jail.
