Man Arrested For Shooting Death On Tucson’s South Side

The Tucson Police Department is investigating a shooting that took the life of Luis Barraza-Bautista on November 15, 2020, on Tucson’s South Side.

According to Tucson Police, on November 15, 2020, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a check on Barraza-Bautista, wo had called 911 reporting that he was involved in a verbal altercation with a man, now identified as 54-year-old Pedro Garcia Martinez.

As Barraza-Bautista was following Garcia Martinez, he provided 911 dispatch with the license plate of Garcia Martinez’s vehicle. A short time later, Barraza-Bautista was no longer responding to the 911 dispatcher. Gunshots were fired in the background during the 911 call. Shortly after, several other 911 callers reported the sound of gun fire and reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a home.

Officers located the vehicle in the 3000 block of E. Via Genovesa which had collided into a residence. Officers then found Barraza-Bautista in the driver seat of the vehicle with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid with the use of their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) until Tucson Fire arrived. Barraza-Bautista was transported to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives learned that the 30-year-old Barraza-Bautista was involved in a verbal altercation at a nearby parking lot with Garcia Martinez. After the altercation, Garcia Martinez left the parking lot in a red pickup and was followed by Barraza-Bautista in his vehicle. During this time, Barraza-Bautista was on the phone speaking with 911 communications until shots were fired.

On November 16, 2020, officers found Garcia Martinez in the area of E. Golf Links Rd. and S. Craycroft Rd. He was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives.

Garcia Martinez is now being held on a charge of second-degree murder.
