Mark Kelly Sworn Into Office

Mark Kelly was sworn in as the new senator from Arizona by VP Mike Pence. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema was at his side.

Mark Kelly was sworn in as the new U.S. senator from Arizona on Wednesday. Vice President Pence, as president of the Senate, officiated the ceremony.

Kelly defeated Sen. Martha McSally in November’s special election. The unpopular McSally was appointed to the position by Governor Doug Ducey after losing to Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in 2018.

Kelly was able to take his oath of office in December, because he is filling the remaining term of the late Republican Sen. John McCain, who died of brain cancer in 2018.

Kelly was accompanied by his wife, Gabby Giffords.
