Michael Hicks, a former Tucson Unified School District governing board president, passed away on Tuesday. Michael passed away “quietly and peacefully,” wrote his wife Leesa Burt Hicks on Facebook.
A fearless advocate for students, parents, teachers, bus drivers, janitors, clerical, and cafeteria staff, Michael served on the always contentious TUSD governing board from 2011 – 2018.
Michael had been hospitalized with complications from COVID-19 since December.
His family had set up a GoFundMe account to cover medical expenses.
