Brothers Caught With Fentanyl, Stolen Gun, Cash By DPS Trooper

Two brothers were arrested last week, after they failed to pull over for a traffic stop.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, on March 24, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a driver, Barry Smith, for a non-moving violation. Barry initially failed to yield but stopped 1 mile later on a frontage road near NB SR-101 & Broadway.

In the vehicle, detectives found 4 oz. of meth – which Barry had tried to hide in his pants before stopping – plus 1,500 fentanyl pills, a stolen gun & about $2,000 cash.

Barry, age 43, of Tempe and his brother Jerame, age 31, of Mesa were booked into Maricopa Co. Jail on charges including:
-Illegal control of an enterprise
-Possession of dangerous drugs for sale
-Possession of narcotics for sale
-Misconduct w/weapons
-Use of an electronic comm. device in drug related transactions
