Ducey Questions Gallego For Phoenix Park Restrictions On Easter Weekend

Gov. Doug Ducey and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego duked it out on Twitter on Friday over the decision by Gallego and the Phoenix City Council to close parking lots and prohibit grilling at parks over Easter weekend.

Phoenix Parks and Recreation said in a press release that the “temporary restrictions are intended to limit the possibility of large group gatherings this weekend.”

Ducey responded in a video published on Twitter. “For some unknown reason, our state’s largest city doesn’t want you in your own public park,” said Ducey. “They’ve shut down all parking and grilling for the weekend.”

The City’s decision to restrict use is illegal as per an executive order issued by Ducey which blocks cities and counties from imposing public health restrictions more stringent than those imposed at the state level.
