Tucson Police Make Arrest In Shooting Death At Smoke Shop

TUCSON- Honorio Juan Nieblas has been arrested for shooting death of 28-year-old Omar Hernandez-Altamirano.

According to Tucson Police, on April 8, 2021, at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the report of a shooting at a smoke shop located at 5342 S. Park Ave. As officers arrived to the area, they located Hernandez-Altamirano with obvious signs of gunshot trauma inside a vehicle. Officers immediately began rendering aid and performed CPR, but Hernandez-Altamirano was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives learned that Hernandez-Altamirano was in a physical confrontation with a man in front of the smoke shop. During that confrontation, Nieblas discharged his firearm, which resulted in Hernandez-Altamirano being struck. After the shooting several individuals left the area including the Nieblas in a white pickup-truck.

Officer located the white pickup-truck at a residence in the 2100 block of E. Honeysuckle St. Detectives responded to the home along with Tucson SWAT where Nieblas was taken into custody.

Detectives charged Nieblas with 1st Degree Murder and Prohibited Possessor. He is currently being held at Pima County Jail. Detectives are looking to speak with additional witness. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
