Scottsdale Governing Board Shuts Down Meeting Over Maskless Parents

On Tuesday, the Scottsdale Unified Governing Board cancelled its meeting due to a large number of maskless attendees. The Board abruptly recessed the meeting after attendees rejected an invitation to go to an “overflow” room in which they could socially distance.

The Board briefly reconvened the meeting a short time later only to take the opportunity to admonished the offending parents, taxpayers, and other stakeholders before ending the meeting for the evening.

The insistence by the Board that attendees wear masks was made despite the latest CDC guidance on the need to wear masks and the latest scientific findings that social distancing does little to nothing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

With well over 30 percent of Arizonans fully vaccinated and an even higher percentage among Scottsdale residents, the Board demanded that attendees ignore CDC guidelines and follow its out-of-date mask policy.

The Board knew well in advance that the meeting would be highly attended, however it was apparent that they were not prepared for such public engagement. In the past, few people attended the meetings, but with the growing awareness of the introduction of Critical Race Theory-based curriculum in all grades, the public is fully engaged and actively resisting the racialization of their children.

Still, Board member Jann Michael Greenburg called the parents a “mob” in a bitter Facebook post.

One parent questioned why the Board would not have scheduled a separate celebration for students “especially in light of the fact that our kids have been cheated of so much joy by our so-called-educators this year. But, you just know the the Board planned it for their own convenience and not for the kids.”
