A Sierra Vista man arrested earlier this month on felony child pornography charges is a nine-time convicted felon who was on parole from the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) when taken into custody, according to public records.
Scott Earl May made a court appearance Monday via video from the Cochise County jail where he is being held on $150,000 bond following his June 14 arrest by the Sierra Vista Police Department. However, he is also now the subject of a no-bond hold issued by ADC.
May, 50, had been released from state prison onto community supervision -formerly called parole- in August 2020 to complete the remainder of a seven-year sentence for a 2014 fraudulent schemes conviction. His recent sex crimes arrest automatically revoked the release, so May will spend the final two months of his 2014 prison sentence in the county jail while his new case moves forward.
Court records show May was initially arrested by SVPD for three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor following a report that illicit images of children were transmitted online from an IP address registered to May’s residence. A county grand jury later indicted him on six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of knowingly inducing a minor.
May has been ordered back to court August 9 for a pretrial conference. No trial date has been set, but May’s speedy trial deadline will be Nov. 25 if he remains in custody pending trial or Dec. 25 if out on bond.
