On Thursday, August 12, 2021, U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar presented Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Edgar Guerra with the 2021 Law Enforcement “Unsung Hero” Commendation. Sgt. Guerra received this award for his “outstanding service and selfless contributions to the citizens of Yuma County.”
Sgt. Edgar Guerra started his career as a Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) deputy in July 2009, where he “demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to serve and protect.”
In 2012, Guerra was assigned to the YCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau where he investigated sexual related crimes and domestic violence incidents, as well as cases involving endangering the welfare of children. In 2015, Guerra was promoted to the rank of Senior Deputy and continued his work in the Criminal Investigations Bureau until 2016 when he promoted to Sergeant and was reassigned to the Patrol Bureau.
In 2019, according to YCSO, Sgt. Guerra was entrusted with developing and spearheading a new Intelligence Unit for the YCSO.
Since starting the Intelligence Unit, YCSO says Sgt. Guerra has been “committed to developing the unit to provide the best possible collective intelligence service to the Patrol, Detention, and Criminal Investigations Bureaus. The Intelligence Unit has been cultivated into a vital asset that facilitates the YCSO and partner agencies to conduct improved and collaborative intelligence-based investigations. Sgt. Guerra is to be commended for his positive attitude, keen problem solving skills, and innovative ways to gather and utilize intelligence information.”
Sheriff Leon Wilmot congratulated Sgt. Guerra on this “well-deserved recognition of his distinguished work.”
