Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb made a point on Twitter to let his employees know that they will “never” be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine on his watch. “We believe that your health choices are yours and yours alone,” said Sheriff Lamb.

Sheriff Lamb’s announcement comes in the wake of the City of Tucson’s vaccine mandate for employees, prompting lawsuits and protests.

Last week, Arizona State Sen. Kelly Townsend asked the Arizona’s Attorney General’s Office to investigate the City of Tucson for its plan to require City employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccination as a term of employment.

Townsend said the action “is a clear violation of Executive Order 2021-18.”

That order issued by Governor Doug Ducey states that “cities, towns, and counties do not have inherit police power to implement vaccine mandates.”

Violators of the order face a Class 3 misdemeanor and are subject to legal action.
