The woman who died after being struck by a Cochise County Sheriff’s vehicle Saturday night as she stood in a busy state highway has been identified as Reyna Maria Vos.

Investigators with the Sierra Vista Police Department continue to look into why Vos, 50, was walking on State Route 92 about 40 feet south of a controlled crosswalk where SR92 intersects with Fry Boulevard and State Route 90. Although the accident happened on a state highway, the accident scene is within the city limits.

SVPD issued a statement Sunday noting there is no indication of any wrongdoing by the CCSO deputy, who has not been identified as of press time. Photographs at the scene shows damage to the grill and hood of the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

“Multiple witnesses who were driving behind the deputy for at least one mile before the collision stated the deputy’s driving was not erratic or concerning,” according to the statement. “The deputy was not driving Code-3 with lights and sirens.”

In addition, the deputy and others immediately attempted life-saving measures but Vos was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services. The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

Among the investigative activities to be conducted in the coming days is a review of the CCSO vehicle’s event data recorder, also known as an automotive black box. There will also be an inspection to determine the vehicle’s mechanical condition at the time of the accident.

Public records show Vos has recently lived in Tombstone and Huachuca City.
