Yuma Sector Border Patrol Agents Apprehend More Than 2,400 Migrants Over The Weekend

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 2,400 migrants over the weekend, which included several large groups and a human smuggling load.

On Friday, agents encountered more than 940 migrants, their largest daily total apprehension so far this fiscal year, which started on October 1. Large groups apprehended over the weekend included the following:

  • Friday – groups of 45, 49, 55, 56 and 78
  • Saturday – groups of 40, 43, 44, 44 and 80
  • Sunday – groups of 47, 64, 84

Wellton Border Patrol agents also intercepted a human smuggling event on Friday. At approximately 1 p.m., agents conducting routine patrols conducted a vehicle stop on a Toyota Scion traveling eastbound on Interstate 8 near Wellton, Arizona. During the stop, agents discovered a United States citizen driver smuggling two Mexican nationals.

The driver, a 30-year-old male from National City, California, was arrested, and his vehicle was seized. The migrants were also arrested and processed under Title 42.
