Yesterday, Congressmen Andy Biggs and Matt Rosendale introduced H.Res. 673 to force the House of Representatives to consider H.R. 1259, the REMAIN in Mexico Act of 2021.

H.R. 1259 requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to implement the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), otherwise known as the Remain in Mexico Program.

In August, DHS was ordered by Judge Kacsmaryk of the Northern District of Texas to “enforce and implement MPP in good faith[.]” However, DHS has yet to reimplement MPP despite Judge Kacsmaryk’s order. H.R. 1259 will force DHS to implement MPP.

“MPP is a successful program established by President Trump to secure our border and discourage illegal immigration. President Biden has been trying to end MPP since his first day in office and has made America less safe in the process. While we are pleased that Judge Kacsmaryk has ordered DHS to enforce and implement MPP, Congress must act to ensure that the Biden Administration actually implements MPP. We must act to secure our borders and address the Biden border crisis since President Biden has proven that he is unwilling to do so,” said Congressman Andy Biggs.

“MPP was one of the most effective tools in our arsenal to curb illegal immigration under the Trump Administration. The Biden Administration worked to undermine this policy since the moment he took office, and the result has been an unprecedented border crisis. For over a month President Biden has refused orders by a federal judge to reimplement MPP and the time has come for Congress to act. I am proud to work with Representative Biggs to introduce this resolution to bring one of my first bills, the REMAIN in Mexico Act, to the floor and put a stop to the invasion we are witnessing at our southern border,” said Rosendale.
