One man is in custody while another is being actively sought by police following a Sept. 17 armed robbery in Sierra Vista.

Demondra Brandon Heard was booked into the Cochise County jail around 5:30 p.m. Sept. 22, five days after officers responded to a 911 report of a man being robbed at gunpoint by two men at a local apartment complex. He is currently charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery, and robbery, all felonies.

Heard, 27, was arrested without incident during a high-risk traffic stop in a Sierra Vista neighborhood. He has been ordered to remain in jail pending trial unless a $25,000 cash bond is posted.

The Sierra Vista Police Department has not released the name of the other suspect.

Public records show Heard has been sentenced to state prison seven times since 2015 for felony convictions ranging from a marijuana violation, disorderly conduct, possession of burglary tools, unlawful imprisonment, weapons misconduct, and aggravated assault. His longest term was 1.5 years.

On June 3, Heard was one of five people arrested after a local resident claimed to have been chased and shot. Detectives working that shooting recovered a handgun tied to a May 26 shooting for which Heard was a person of interest.

Heard was booked into the Cochise County jail at the time for a charge of weapons misconduct due to being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bail was set at $55,000.

However, there is no record on the Arizona Judicial Branch website of formal charges being filed against Heard in connection to the May 26 or June 3 shootings.

In an unrelated matter, a warrant was issued for Heard’s arrest in August after he failed to appear at the Sierra Vista Justice Court for a hearing on a traffic violation.
