Cochise County Supervisors Approve Operation Stonegarden Grant Funding

The Cochise County Board of Supervisors, in a 2-1 vote, approved an Operation Stone Garden Grant. The grant from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security, will help fund the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office with departmental equipment.

Supervisor Tom Crosby cast the lone “no” vote.

The Operation Stonegarden grant for $142,919.61 will allow the Sheriff’s Office to purchase x-ray equipment to assist the U.S. Border Patrol in identifying and deterring illegal immigrant and drug smuggling into the United States. The grant period is effective from August 5, 2021 through July 31, 2022.

In other news, the Board unanimously approved liquor licenses for two local businesses to advance with their endeavors, Urbano Coffee in Sierra Vista and Palo Verde El Toro Steakhouse in Douglas.
