How Did They Vote: Arizona Split On Approving Massive $1.2 Trillion Spending Bill

For Arizona lawmakers, the vote to advance debate on the massive House spending package late Friday night split largely along party lines. House members voted 228-206 to pass a procedural measure that allows the $1.2 Trillion bill to eventually come to the floor for a vote.

All Arizona Republicans – Andy Biggs, Paul Gosar, Debbie Lesko, and David Schweikert voted against the bill. All Arizona Democrats – Greg Stanton, Ruben Gallego, Ann Kirkpatrick, Raul Grijalva, and Tom O’Halleran voted for the bill.

“At this point, I’m not sure who the American people are more mad at,” tweeted Biggs. “The Democrats for promoting their socialist “infrastructure” plan. Or the RINOs who pushed it past the finish line,” referring to the 13 GOP members who voted for the massive spending package.

“For far too long, Congress has agreed that infrastructure is an American priority but has let political gridlock get in the way of concrete action,” said O’Halleran. “I was proud to vote to pass this much-needed package today.”

Democrats have sold the bill as part of the Biden administration’s Build Back Better plan. However, the bill contains very little funding for building infrastructure. Instead, it funds everything from low income housing to child care.

  • Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri
  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York
  • Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota
  • Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts
  • Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan
