A juvenile is in custody, according to the Buckeye Police Department, in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old male.

On November 13, 2021 just before 2:30 a.m. Buckeye Police Department officers received a call about a shooting outside the QuikTrip located at 900 S. Watson. The 16-year-old male was found lying on the ground deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed multiple witnesses and learned the suspect had made threats toward the victim who was in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend. The two arrived at the location on Watson separately. When the suspect learned the victim was there, he shot and killed the victim. A second shooting occurred when a friend of the victim fired several shots at the suspect as he fled the scene.

With assistance from DPS and Phoenix air units, detectives located the homicide suspect near 99th Ave and Thomas around 3 p.m. The suspect is a 17-year-old male. Because he is a juvenile, his name will not be released. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Buckeye Police tip line at (623) 349-6411 or 480-WITNESS to remain anonymous and potentially be eligible for a cash reward.
