Shooting At Cesar Chavez High School Sends Student To Hospital

PHOENIX — Phoenix Police officers are looking for a suspect in a shooting that occurred on Monday afternoon at Cesar Chavez High School in the Phoenix Union High School District.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to calls of a shooting at the school at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Police learned that an altercation in a bathroom on campus resulted in the shooting of a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The District advised parents of the incident in a short message:

Hello Chavez Families,

After school today there was an altercation in a restroom on campus that resulted in a student being wounded, allegedly from a firearm. Local authorities were immediately contacted to assist. All other students and staff who were on campus are safe. This incident took place after school and the campus is being cleared. All afternoon activities at Chavez have been moved or rescheduled.
