Chandler Police Arrest Career Burglary Suspect Twice In One Month

A career burglary suspect, Charles Payne, has been arrested by Chandler Police on multiple counts of commercial burglaries for the second time in a month. On November 10, 2021 Payne was arrested for five counts of third degree burglary and booked until Maricopa county jail.

Subsequently, Payne was released on his own recognizance after his initial appearance on November 11, 2021. Within 15 days he began victimizing businesses in Chandler again.

Chandler Police begin looking into a spree of commercial burglaries off the Arizona Avenue from Pecos Road to Ocotillo Road between November 26, and December 1, 2021. As a result, Chandler Police detectives positively identified Payne as a suspect in all of the commercial burglaries through video surveillance and evidence left at the scenes.

On November 26, 2021 Payne entered a restaurant, in the early morning hours, at Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo damaging cash registers, and stealing currency. On November 30, 2021, in the late evening, Payne damaged the front window of a restaurant at Arizona Avenue and Pecos, entering the business, damaging cash registers, and stealing currency.

On December 1, 2021, Payne damaged the front window of a coffee shop at Arizona Avenue and Willis, and entered the business. Payne located no currency and he left the business. Within minutes of the previous burglary, Payne damage the front window of a small grocery store in the same complex, entering the business, damaging cash registers, and stealing currency.

On December 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m., a Chandler Police detective arrested Payne. Payne was later booked into the Maricopa County jail for four counts of third degree burglary. Payne is being held on a no bond status.
