During Chris Magnus’ tenure as the City of Tucson’s Chief of Police, Tucson earned the distinction of being one of the most violent and deadly communities in the country. Magnus also earned a reputation for utterly demoralizing the officers serving under him.

These failures were ultimately overcome by his politically correct ideology and left-wing record, as Magnus was sworn in by Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas as the fifth Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Magnus would seem an odd choice to lead a department dedicated to securing America’s border. His initial claim to fame was as a Black Lives Matter sign-carrying member of the Richmond, CA police force. His liberal politics were appealing to Tucson’s City Council, which ultimately hired him as Police Chief.

Magnus grew up in Lansing, MI. He earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and his master’s degree in labor relations from Michigan State University.

In addition to Mayorkas, Magnus was joined by his husband, Terrance Cheung, Deputy Commissioner Troy Miller, Executive Assistant Commissioner Benjamine Huffman, CBP Chief of Staff Lise Clavel, and members of the DHS and CBP workforce.
