Three Armed Men Attempt To Rob International Boundary & Water Commission Worker

On Monday, December 13, 2021, at approximately 8:52 a.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Colorado River in the area of the Levee Road and County 8th Street.

Investigators learned that two employees from International Boundary & Water Commission were performing work duties on the river when one of them was confronted by three unknown subjects from the Mexico region embankment. The subjects made contact with the victim and demanded he give them money and his boat while displaying a firearm. The second victim had momentarily left to a water pump and witnessed the incident as he returned to the area. When the subjects saw the victim’s colleague return, they retreated. The suspects were described as three males wearing dark colored hoodies, masks, and they spoke in English. The victims did not sustain any injuries.

Due to the current border crisis, there has been an influx of unknown individuals along the areas of the Colorado River and the Levee Road. These individuals may be accompanied by smugglers and/or other unknown criminals.

This case remains under investigation at this time.
