Armed Man Threatening To Rob Phoenix Circle K Shot By Officer

On January 6, 2022, at about 11:30 p.m., Phoenix Police responded to a subject with a gun call near 17th Avenue and Van Buren Street. An armed man was threatening to rob a nearby convenience store.

When the officers arrived on scene, according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Philip Krynsky, they found the man outside of the store. He retrieved a gun from his person at which point the officers gave repeated commands for him to drop it. The man ignored their commands and continued to manipulate the gun and point it in different directions. An officer fired his gun at the suspect, striking him.

When additional officers arrived, the man was detained without further incident. The officers rendered first aid until Phoenix Fire arrived and transported him to a local hospital for treatment. The man is expected to survive and will be booked on several charges upon release from the hospital.
