On Wednesday, the Arizona House of Representatives honored the life of Casa Grande Police Officer Jesus “Chuy” Lara, who passed on January 4 after battling COVID-19.

An official legislative proclamation, sponsored by State Rep. Teresa Martinez, was read aloud on the House floor and paid tribute to Officer Lara’s life and service to his family, his community, and Arizona.

Legislative Proclamation in Honor of Jesus “Chuy” Lara:

Whereas, Jesus “Chuy” Lara was born on May 24, 1977, in Eloy, Arizona and died on January 4, 2022 in Chandler, Arizona after battling COVID-19; and

Whereas, Chuy was well known throughout Casa Grande and Pinal County as he was an active participant in area sports leagues especially coaching with youth teams; and

Whereas, Chuy followed his dream to be a police officer and worked for the Gila River Police Department for two years and the Casa Grande Police Department for six years; and

Whereas, Chuy was appreciated by his coworkers and community members for his kindheartedness and empathy when dealing with children and other victims of crime; and

Whereas, Chuy coached his daughter’s softball team and his son’s baseball team and was a devoted family man; and

Whereas, he is survived by his wife Kristi and two daughters Brisa Bolanos and Alia Lara, and son Isak Lara of Casa Grande, as well as his father , Salvador “Sal” Lopez of Arizona City and four brothers, Ray Martinez of Phoenix, Carlos “Los” Lara of Mesa, Diego Lopez of Eloy and EJ Lujan of Casa Grande.

Therefore, I, Representative Teresa Martinez, invite the members of the Arizona House of Representatives to join me in honoring Jesus “Chuy” Lara for his kind loving service to his family, his community, and Arizona.
