A hiker camping on a peak in the Superstition Mountains east of metro Phoenix, Richard Jacobson, died after slipping while taking a selfie.
The 21-year-old from Mesa was found dead after falling hundreds of feet, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacobson’s hiking companion called 911 at approximately 12:45 a.m. last Monday. Search and rescue teams were dispatched to the area at around 12:45 a.m.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety ranger was called to assist in the recovery of Jacobson’s body.
