On February 20, 2022, just before 9:30 p.m., Tucson Police officers were dispatched to a fight in progress in the 3500 block of E. Flower St. When the arrived, officers found 51-year-old Stevan McKinney in the backyard of a residence with obvious signs of gunshot trauma.
Officers immediately began rendering aid utilizing their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK). Tucson Fire personnel arrived and continued lifesaving efforts. Despite these efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives learned that Mr. McKinney was trespassing in the backyard of a residence along with other individuals. They were asked to leave by the responsible parties for the property and refused, and a confrontation ensued. During the confrontation, Mr. McKinney brandished a
firearm. One of the responsible parties was armed with a handgun and discharged his firearm, striking Mr. McKinney.
