Somerton 17-Year-Old Victim Of Fatal Failure To Yield

On Monday, March 7, 2022 at approximately 4:23 PM, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle versus motorcycle collision at the intersection of Avenue B and Patricia Lane.
The initial investigation revealed that a motorcycle, a 2015 Black Honda CPR 500, was traveling northbound on Avenue B approaching the intersection at Patricia Lane. The driver of the vehicle, a 2011 Silver Chevy Equinox, was westbound on Patricia Lane when it failed to yield the right of way for the motorcycle as it proceeded to enter the intersection on to Avenue B. The motorcyclist collided with the rear driver side of the vehicle causing the motorcyclist to be ejected and fatally injured.
The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. He is identified as a 17 year-old male of Somerton, AZ. Next of kin notification has been made.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision.
