The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has officially called an election to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel. Adel issued her resignation on Monday to be effective Friday, March 25, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.

Adel’s resignation becomes effective 10 days before the election filing deadline for the August 2, Maricopa County Primary Election. Arizona law requires the vacancy to be filled by election should it occur before the election filing deadline. The winner of that election would serve out the rest Adel’s four year term.
Adel has been in and out of treatment for alcoholism, an eating disorder, and anxiety since August.
According to the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office, “Applicants wishing to appear on the primary ballot must submit signatures to the county by April 4. Must file statement of interest before gathering signatures.
