On Friday, led by Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs, House Republicans wrote to the Department of Homeland Security requesting information on the number of Russians entering the U.S. via the southern border.
Biggs, House Border Security Caucus co-chair, wrote to Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas informing him that “we have been made aware of an increase in illegal aliens from Russia illegally entering the United States.”

“Americans deserve to know who is attempting to illegally enter the country and whether they are being released into the country,” wrote Biggs. “I’ve been recently made aware of reports of an increase in Russians attempting to enter the country and have serious concerns of what this could mean for our national security. Secretary Mayorkas must provide more clarity about this situation, especially as national security threats from Russia increase given the current situation in Ukraine.”
Biggs gave DHS until Friday, April 15, 2022 to answer the following questions:
1. Has the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) instituted additional vetting procedures for Russian nationals?
2. How many Russian nationals has U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered illegally entering the United States since January 20, 2021? Please provide a breakdown by month.
