As Arizona braces for a massive surge of migrants across its insecure southern border, the consul general of Ukraine urged Arizona lawmakers to provide more assistance to restore Ukraine’s border during a special joint session of the Legislature.

The week before, Governor Doug Ducey visited the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs to send off 9,000 pounds of equipment and supplies to the Ukraine government.

Arizona’s hard-pressed local, county, state and tribal law enforcement agencies contributed to the cause.

The shipment included 874 bullet proof vests, 77 helmets, miscellaneous tactical clothing, footwear, pads and shields. The 17 pallets of equipment will be transported to Ukraine by the Ukrainian Relief Group and are anticipated to be delivered in the next two weeks.

The equipment was provided by:

  • Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office
  • Mesa Police Department
  • Navajo County Sheriff’s Office
  • Payson Police Department
  • Pinal County Adult Probation
  • Phoenix Police Department
  • Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community
  • Sedona Police Department
  • Tohono O’odham Nation
  • Tucson Police Department
