Phoenix police detectives have identified 48-year-old Shelton Ford as the man arrested for possessing more than 1200 catalytic converters piled up in a Phoenix storage shed.

Ford was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on dozens of counts of possessing used catalytic converters by an unauthorized person. Additional charges could come after review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Detectives estimate the street value of the seized car parts at more than $195,000.

In January of this year, Phoenix police detectives began an investigation into Ford, who was suspected of possessing a significant number of catalytic convertors. Through diligent police work, and advanced investigative methods, enough evidence was collected to get a search warrant on a storage unit. When detectives opened the unit, they discovered the stash of catalytic convertors.

The vast majority of these parts are believed to be stolen. Many of them had fresh cuts indicated they had been removed from vehicles.
