Phoenix Shooter Who Witnesses Say Acted In Self-Defense Released, Investigation Continues

Phoenix Police are investigating a homicide that has left a 49-year-old male dead in northwest Phoenix.

On May 28th around 6 p.m., Phoenix Police received a call about a man shot in the chest in the area of 39th Avenue and Grovers Avenue. When officers got to the scene, they located a man, later identified as David Standley, with gunshot wounds. Mr. Standley was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The unnamed man was detained on scene and was interviewed by detectives, ultimately making a claim of self-defense. Based on evidence at the scene and witness statements, the male was released, and the investigation will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review.
