Phoenix Police Department officers are investigating an aggravated assault that has left a woman injured at a Walmart near the old Metrocenter Mall in north Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on June 7th, around 3:30 p.m. Phoenix Police received a call about a shooting at a store in the area of 9600 North Metro Parkway.

A Phoenix Police Officer working in an off-duty capacity heard shots being fired and detained a man, later identified as Diontay Evans. The investigation at the scene found that Evans had been involved in a verbal altercation with two adult males that were known to him. As all three males were leaving, Evans produced a handgun and fired several times back into the store striking a 45-year-old female, who is believed to be an unintended victim. Evans fired additional rounds at one of the males he was having an altercation with, striking a vehicle.

The female was taken to a local hospital, where her injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening. At this time, the investigation remains ongoing.
