Phoenix Police Investigating Cause Of Death Of Man In Custody

Phoenix Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in police custody.  

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on June 10th, around 2:45 p.m., officers were called to a business in the area of 91st Avenue and McDowell about an injured or sick person. Officers got to the scene and located an adult male, later identified as Caleb Blair. Blair had no shirt on and was his pants were around his ankles. Blair was showing signs of impairment and was rolling on the ground. 

Additional officers got to the business, and Blair was placed in handcuffs without further incident. For his safety, he was taken to a shaded area and the fire department was requested to evaluate him. While receiving treatment, Blair lost consciousness. His handcuffs were removed, and life saving measures were given. Blair was later transported to a local hospital where he died.

The Phoenix Police Department advises that the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiner. The actions of the officers will be subject to an internal and criminal investigation.
