The Yavapai County Sheriff Office has identified Robert McDowell as the man responsible for the fatal shooting of YCSO Sergeant Rick Lopez last evening in Cordes Junction.
McDowell, age 61 of Mayer is charged with 1st degree murder.
Yavapai County Sheriff’s say Sgt. Richard Lopez, 51, was trying to apprehend McDowell after a theft call when he was shot in a Cordes Lakes neighborhood near Stagecoach Trail and Red Rock Road.
Governor Doug Ducey ordered a half staff at all state buildings on Wednesday in honor of Sergeant Lopez.
