Suspect Drags Yuma Police Officer Conducting Traffic Stop

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at approximately 3:35 p.m., a Yuma Police Department officer was dragged by a vehicle that he was conducting a traffic stop on in the 1200 block of S. 4th Avenue.

The officer said  that he saw the driver attempting to ingest an unknown substance. The officer leaned into the vehicle, attempting to stop the driver from ingesting the substance when the driver of the vehicle sped off with the officer’s upper body still in the vehicle. The officer was able to free himself after a distance and called out the incident.

At approximately 4:04 p.m., the vehicle was found in the 6000 block of E. 32nd Street. Officers set up a perimeter and the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 4:44 p.m. without incident.

The suspect was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for observation. The motor officer was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.
