The Yuma Police Department is investigating the murder of 39 year old Virginia Pena.
According to the Department, on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 2:50 a.m., officers responded to the area of 9th Street and Avenue A for a shots fired call. Officers located a tan GMC Yukon with a shooting victim, Virginia Pena, inside.
The investigation revealed the Yukon, with four female occupants, was traveling in the area of 1st Street and 15th Avenue when a dark colored pick-up truck fired several rounds at the Yukon. The Yukon stopped at 9th Street and Avenue A and called for assistance. Ms. Pena was struck by the gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other reported injuries.
