Woman Charged With Two Counts Of Second Degree Murder In Pinal County Crash

A woman is in custody after causing a deadly accident.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, on August 13, 2022 around 4:45 p.m., deputies responded to a fatal traffic collision on Gantzel Rd. near Empire Rd. in San Tan Valley.

The driver of the at-fault vehicle, 38-year-old Janelle Littlebear, was traveling northbound on Gantzel when she failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the median, and crashed into an oncoming vehicle headed southbound.

The driver and the passenger of the second vehicle, a man and woman both in their late 70s, were killed in the collision.

Littlebear sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. A search warrant was used to gather the suspect’s blood. Her BAC was found to be .271.

On August 16, 2022, Littlebear was booked into the Pinal County Jail for two counts of second degree murder.

“This tragic loss of life is senseless and entirely preventable,” said Sheriff Mark Lamb. “Our hearts go out to the victims’ families.”
