Maricopa County Supervisors Appoint Citizen Panel For LD-19 House Applicant Review

arizona capitol

As required by law, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed a citizen panel to begin the process of filling the Arizona House of Representatives vacancy in Legislative District 19.

LD-19 covers part of the Southwest Valley.

The following people were chosen to sit on the panel:

  • Francisca Montoya
  • Adan Morado
  • Gonzalo R. Ortiz
  • Belinda Quezada
  • Mayor Juan Rodriguez
  • In accordance with ARS 41-1202, section B, a citizen panel is required for a vacancy in a district in which there are fewer than 30 elected precinct committeemen. LD-19 has 13 precinct committeemen.

The newly-appointed panel will review applications and will, within 21 days, submit three names of qualified electors to the Board for consideration. Those electors must meet the requirements, live in the district and be of the same party as the person who vacated the office. In this case, that means a member of the Democratic Party. The Board of Supervisors will consider the list of electors and by a majority vote, choose a person to fill the vacancy.

Anyone interested in the position can send their cover letters and resumes to the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by email at clerkboard@maricopa.gov or by direct mail to Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, 301 W. Jefferson, Phoenix, AZ 85003 (floor 10). Applications are being accepted until Friday September 16th, 2022. All documents filed with the Clerk’s Office will become public records. Applicants are subject to a background check.
