Early Morning Traffic Collision In Phoenix Leaves Woman Dead

fatality

Phoenix Police officers responded to a call of a vehicle collision on 9th Avenue and Buckeye Road just after 4:45 a.m.

When officers arrived, they learned a woman, later identified as 41-year-old Candice Russell, waved down a car and was asking the driver to call 911. Russell and the vehicle were stopped in the roadway facing eastbound on Buckeye Road when a second car was coming from behind and swerved to avoid the collision. The second vehicle then sideswiped the stopped car, which struck Russell after the initial impact.

Russell sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital where she died. The drivers of both vehicles did not require transportation to the hospital.

The investigation remains active. No arrests have been made at this time. It is unclear at this time why Russell needed to call 911.
