The Phoenix Police Department has identified 26-year-old Kordell Ellis as the man suspected of driving through a schoolyard, resulting in a child being hospitalized.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, on September 30th, 2022 around 3 p.m., an officer saw a vehicle speeding near a school zone and turned on their lights and siren in an effort to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle continued on, driving through a school yard.

The patrol officer lost sight of the vehicle but later located it, several minutes later in the area of Tatum and Sheena Dr and found that it had been involved in a collision with a 2nd vehicle. A juvenile male in that 2nd vehicle was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Officers learned that an item, later found to be a firearm, fell from Ellis’ vehicle around the time officers attempted to stop him.

Ellis was later taken into custody in a residential yard.
