The Phoenix Police Department is investigating a fatal hit and run collision that left a man dead.
Phoenix Police officers responded to a call of a serious vehicle collision around 3:15 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the roadway with obvious signs of trauma. The officers provided aid until the fire department arrived. The man was pronounced deceased on scene.
Witnesses told officers the man crossing the road was struck by a vehicle and they directed officers to an area nearby where the suspect vehicle drove to. The officers located the vehicle which had significant damage to the front end. During their investigation they identified and detained the driver of the vehicle.
Detectives responded to the area where they processed the scene and investigated what lead up to the collision. The driver was detained.
No charging decision has been made as the investigation remains active, according to Phoenix Police.
